Yoga is an ancient practice that originated about 5,000 years ago in India.  The word "yoga" comes from the Sanskrit language and it means "yoke, union, or connection".  Hatha yoga is a branch of yoga that works primarily with the body through postures (Asanas), breathing exercises (Pranayama) and meditation.  Yoga can enrich your life, both physically and spiritually.

BENEFITS OF YOGA include: strength, increased mobility and flexibility, grounded, fortify nerves, enhance digestion, sleep, intuition, vitality and well-being.

"Yogas Citta Vritti Nirodha", so begins the earliest text on Yoga, "the aim of Yoga is the intentional stopping of the spontaneous fluctuations of mindstuff (so that the individual may see for herself what lies beyond the surface of what things appear to be)". Yoga as a worldview and as an experiential process has definite things to say about the nature of the body, mind, time, space, being and God. The practice of Yoga is an attempt to realize these truths within oneself.

Yoga Postures or Asanas practiced regularly, builds strength and flexibility.  Muscles are toned and stretched.  Negative stress is released as we learn to relax and breath into the postures.  We reconnect fully and mindfully with our bodies and learn to listen to our bodies innate wisdom.

Pranayama or Yoga Breathing Exercises help revitalize the body and focus the mind, leaving you feeling calm, refreshed and renewed.

Meditation Practice can bring increased clarity, focus, awareness, intuition and concentration.

Anyone, whatever your age, weight, flexibility or beliefs can practice and benefit from yoga.  The path of yoga is a healing journey bringing balance to body, mind, and spirit.
